Regents Approve "Economic Stimulus" Package
On Thursday, March 8, the Board of Regents endorsed a revised budget package that seeks an additional $59.9 million for new programs beyond what Governor McCallum included in his budget recommendations. The Governor's budget included $35.4 million for new programs. The Regents had originally requested $142.9 million in state money and tuition for new programs.

Gov. McCallum's Budget Recommendations
On Tuesday February 20, 2001 Governor Scott McCallum introduced his recommendations for the 2001-03 biennial budget. The recommendations, introduced as Senate Bill 55 and Assembly Bill 144, now go to the legislature's Joint Committee on Finance, which will review the bills and begin taking action on them in late April or early May.

UW System 2001-03 Biennial Budget Request
On Friday, August 25, the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents approved the UW System 2001-2003 biennial budget request, which included a combined increase of $179.9 million in state funding (GPR) and student fees over the two year biennium, which is an average annual increase of 3.7 percent. Tuition would increase 3.2 percent each year to cover the student share of the budget request; however, this does not include the student share of the faculty/staff pay plan or additional tuition charged for individual campus initiatives such as the Madison Initiative.
